Greetings,
I am visiting Bloomington last weekend of this month in hopes to fall in love with the town, move in and attend IU. Are there any Hostels? What about coop's? Whats the best spots to see the reality of the town in two days?
PLEASE HELP

Re: 1st trip to Bloomington help
Thu, October 12, 2006 - 1:17 PMbloomington's amazing! there's lots of great places and people to know!
not any hostels or really any official coop houses, but tons of intentional shred living going on.
I would point you to the runcible spoon coffee shop, which is very near the downtown bloomingfoods (our healthfood store and hangout). Also Soma Coffee Shop is nice and Laughing Planet burritos upstairs. There's always lots of house parties and basement shows for the indy rock feel and it's evolutions into punk or folk. for a booty dance party done indy rock style check out club kirkwood on the corner of rodgers and kirkwood. Watch for the Local Hiphop Showcase and Lotus Festival yearround events (the festival has passed this year).
Btown is amazing! My home town and life long love! It's a great place to call home. Enjoy!
salaam,

Re: 1st trip to Bloomington help
Fri, October 13, 2006 - 4:49 AMMany Thanx GoodFellow!!!
I appreciate your help. I will definately scope out those places you mentioned and hope to be inspired to move the next day...I know that IU had totally won me over with its cultural studies!
Is there a reggae scene by chance?
Bless Up

Re: 1st trip to Bloomington help
Sat, October 14, 2006 - 1:27 PMyes!!! there totally is a reggae scene!!!
Many traveling reggae groups come thru Bloomington and rock it, and there is a sweet little dread-neck reggae-folk-oldtime scene going on, with the band Zion Crossroads leading in that genre...
Check out Max's Pizza on 7th and Walnut for shows and ask around about reggae shows.
every summer there's a reggae roots fest out in Kneadmore, 12 miles outside of town...
Re: Cultural Studies - My friend Prof. David Haberman used to be the head of the religious studies dept of IU, and is still an amazing professor and friend. He's in India right now, but he'll be back. I HIGHLY reccomend his Religion, Ecology, and the Self class and his Hinduism class!
lemme know how it goes for you and maybe I'll see you when I'm back there in December!
